FEED ENZYMES

Feed enzymes are a specialised area, and Huvepharma is a strong player with involvement in all areas including primary manufacturing & new product development, technical services / assays and field performance measurement, and marketing/ sales and customer support. There is a plethora of technical bulletins and technical marketing material on Hostazym enzymes available for review.

The recent licensing & manufacture of new generation bacterial enzyme Hostazym P (known as Optiphos in USA) means Huvepharma has one of the top phytase enzymes available globally. Prof Ravindran of Massey Univ & Assoc. Prof Aaron Cowieson of Univ Sydney, Australasia’s phytase enzyme experts, pers comms 2011).

Huvepharma also manufactures a solid state fermented fungal enzyme Hostazym X which has wide enzymatic activity against non starch polysaccharides in feeds, good heat tolerance to pelleting, and excellent batch consistency.

HOSTAZYM X microGranulate

Description

Solid state fermented enzyme endo-1,4-beta-xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8), with wide enzymatic activity, heat tolerance to pelleting, and excellent batch consistency.

Produced in Europe by Huvepharma AD using non GMO fungal strain producing ‘Trichoderma longibrachiatum’ using solid state fermentation. This method provides more targeted enzymatic activity in most NZ pig and poultry feeds, due to the wheat bran growth medium.

Key features of Hostazym X over traditional Submerged Fermentation produced enzymes;

  • higher concentration of enzymes
  • many side acting enzymes
  • better thermostability
  • restricted availability of water helps select against undesirable contaminants, especially bacteria and yeasts

Recommended use

  • For inclusion in compound feed rich in non-starch polysaccharides (mainly arabinoxylans), e.g. containing more than 40% wheat.
  • Suitable for broiler chickens, turkeys, laying hens, piglets and pigs

Efficacy studies

Head to head efficacy trials with leading competitor enzymes, and against negative control diets, show excellent efficacy especially in wheat dominant or wheat/maize based diets. Details on Hostazym X, and matrix values for poultry along with European trial data available on request.

HOSTAZYM P

Description

An enzyme preparation of 6-phytase (IUB 3.1.3.26.) produced by strain producer Pichia pastoris in Europe by Huvepharma AD.

Known as Optiphos in USA, Hostazym P is a ‘second generation’ bacterial phytase;

  • highest activity at optimum gastric pH (2.0 –4.5)
  • Favourable biocatalytic properties - excels in its affinity for phytate(Km) and speed of action (Vmax).
  • Protease resistance – highly resistant to pepsin
  • Proven documented efficacy in release of phytate phosphorus – commonly twice as effective as competitor products at recommended inclusion levels
  • Allows greater reduction of iP levels in the feed
  • • Excellent heat and moisture stability (PF form)- Univ. of Illinois trial shows 81% retention at 85 C pelleting (cf 72% Ronozyme), & 73% retention at 90 C

These key differentiating features along with the uniform microGranulate product form, superior heat tolerance for the coated form, and competitive cost mean a compelling value proposition for poultry integrators and feedmillers.

Recommended use

Use in virtually all pig and poultry feeds that contain more than 40% in grains, soy meal or legumes to improve phytate digestibility, and to improve nutrient utilisation of proteins, calcium , microelements, and amino acids.

Efficacy studies

New bacterial phytase enzyme are replacing old generation fungal phytase enzymes globally. Head to head efficacy trials with leading competitor enzymes, show Hostazym P as more efficacious at target gut pH. Details on Hostazym P, and matrix values along with European trial data, available on request.
